NEW! Online option for Spanish III

CUSLAR’s Spanish III Intermediate/Advanced Conversation course will have an online participation option this fall. Online participants will engage in varied and dynamic exercises as well as small- and large-group conversation. More info below.

 

ABOUT CUSLAR SPANISH:

CUSLAR offers not-for-credit Spanish classes on the Cornell University campus in spring and fall as part of our educational programming. 


Our classes are personalized, interactive and taught by experienced instructors who are native speakers. L
earn Spanish in a small-group setting with a curriculum tailored to fit each group’s learning needs and goals. 

Levels:

    • Spanish Elements I, for Beginners
    • Spanish Elements II, for Advanced Beginners
    • Spanish III: Intermediate/Advanced Conversation

 

Spanish Elements I, for Beginners 

For students who wish to begin learning Spanish and for those who are returning to formal study after a few years, as well as students working toward intermediate proficiency. This course presents Spanish pronunciation, basic grammar and vocabulary and works on students’ conversational skills.

In addition to classroom instruction, participants will be invited to a Spanish-language dinner out at a local Mexican restaurant with the instructor. Students will order and converse in Spanish (and pay for their own meal).

Course fee:
Registration: $395 by September 11, or $425 by the first day of class.

Meeting times: Tuesday and Thursday evenings, September 17 – November 21.
5:30-6:30 pm.
No class October 15 for Cornell fall break.
Make-up date: November 26.

Spanish Elements II, for Advanced Beginners 

For students who have taken Spanish Elements I or another beginning Spanish class, working towards an intermediate level of proficiency. In this course, advancing beginners solidify basic conversation skills and develop their vocabulary.

In addition to classroom instruction, participants will be invited to a Spanish-language dinner out at a local Mexican restaurant with the instructor. Students will order and converse in Spanish (and pay for their own meal).

Course fee:
Registration: $395 by September 11, or $425 by the first day of class.

6:40-7:40 pm.

Spanish III: Intermediate/Advanced Conversation
In-person course with online option

Spanish speakers will develop expressive capacity in conversational Spanish through discussion of texts and film, as well as through presentations and by leading group discussion. Targeted grammar and vocabulary review will supplement conversation. Online participation will be made possible via Zoom. Online participants will engage in varied and dynamic exercises as well as small- and large-group conversation.

Course fee:
Registration: $295 by September 11, 2019 or $325 by the first day of class.

Meeting times: Wednesday evenings, September 18 – November 20, 2019.
5:30-7:00 pm Eastern time.
Make-up date: November 27 (online only).

Place: TBA, Cornell central campus, and via Zoom videoconferencing.

Instructor: Maria Gimma

Maria teaches Spanish at Seven Valleys New Tech Academy in Cortland, New York, and has been previously at Spencer-Van Etten and New Roots Charter School. She is dynamic, creative and experienced with all levels and ages of Spanish students. She is a native speaker from Colombia. We are very lucky to have her!
