Hiring: Instructor, CUSLAR’s “Hola, Amigos!” Spanish through Play
CUSLAR, the Committee on U.S.-Latin American Relations, works for peace, justice and greater mutual understanding in U.S.-Latin American relations. Spanish language classes for families in the Ithaca, NY area are a central part of our educational mission, where we integrate age-appropriate language learning with songs, art and play.
Job Description
CUSLAR seeks a Spanish language instructor for beginning-level “Hola, Amigos!” classes for the Winter and Spring 2020 sessions in downtown Ithaca. This position will be contracted for a five-week session (Feb-March) and an eight-week session (Apr-June) with post-class evaluation and potential to continue into subsequent sessions. The instructor will report to the CUSLAR Coordinator and work with and learn from current CUSLAR “Hola, Amigos!” instructor.
Candidate should be available to teach 1-2 classes of 50 minutes each, weekdays late afternoon. Additional prep time and assistance of current instructor will be required initially.
The instructor will be provided with materials developed in previous years and will be encouraged to develop additional curriculum as needed.
Qualifications
- Candidate must have experience teaching Spanish and have skills to teach in a group setting, especially with children 3-9 years old.
- Candidate should be a native or fluent speaker of the Spanish Language.
- Candidate should be able to incorporate diverse pedagogical techniques, engage children in age-appropriate ways, involve parents or caretakers in learning, and be excited to play!
Compensation
Competitive, commensurate with experience, starting at $15/hr. This is a part-time contract position with no benefits.
